Chennai, May 7: A 46-year-old Chennai woman was electrocuted in Kanathur on Sunday after she fell asleep with the earphones in her ear. The woman was identified as Fathima. According to a report published in The Times of India, Fathima’s husband informed the police after he found her motionless body lying on the bed.
"Fathima's husband Abdul Kalam saw her in bed and tried to wake her up but in vain," a police officer was quoted saying. The officer also said, "He was alarmed when she showed no sign of life and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival."
Fathima’s body was sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for autopsy after hospital officials informed the Kanathur police. Doctors of the government hospital confirmed that she died of electrocution. According to the report, a case was registered under Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) section 174.
According to the police officer, the woman had gone to sleep while wearing the headphones on Saturday night. He further added that a short-circuit might have caused the electrocution.
