Railway Officials said that Rs. 10 lakh was allocated for modifying each coach under Project Swarn. Modifications to existing coaches and even new modified coaches have been added to several trains under Project 'Swarn' started by the railway in November, 2017. Around 15 to 17 coaches of the Bengaluru Shatabdi and Coimbatore Shatabdi is expected to be modified one-by-one by May 2018.
Under the Swarn project, coaches will be equipped with LED lights to aid reading. The coach will boast of facilities such as coach indication board and CCTV cameras at the entrance. The interiors will also be revamped as it will have a refreshing look of vinyl wrapping at the entrance and above the luggage rack. Arrangements will be made for fragrance dispensers inside the toilets and compartments. One unique step by the railways for the visually- impaired passengers will be the introduction of Braille signage to denote coach numbers. This facility was long due in the Indian trains and its introduction in one of the express trains will augur well for the visually- impaired and challenged people.
