Patna, April 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest of the function planned in Champaran on April 10 to mark the 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi's satyagraha in the district. Apart from Modi, other dignitaries who would be present at the event include Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh along with CMs of neighbouring states.
Large-scale preparation has been undertaken at Motihari, the district capital of East Champaran, where the event will be held. Massive tents have been placed to accommodate over 20,000 Swacchagrahis (cleanliness ambassadors) who would be attending the celebratory function.
PM Modi is scheduled to address the gathering, where he would be honouring the efforts taken by the Swacchagrahis to promote the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign -- the cleanliness drive launched by him in October 2014.
On social media, the event is being promoted by various celebrities using the hashtag #ChaloChamparan. Here are some prominent tweets:

The Bihar government had launched Champaran satyagraha centenary celebrations in April last year, to commemorate the nonviolent civil resistance organised by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917, which ultimately led the British government to recognise the rights of local farmers, who were forced to cultivate indigo.
