New Delhi, May 29: A class 10th student in Dabri, a residential colony in South West Delhi allegedly committed suicide soon after the Class 10 CBSE exams results were announced on Tuesday. According to a tweet by ANI, the student took the tragic step after she failed in Maths and Science subjects. To recall, the overall pass percentage in the CBSE Class 10 exams was 86.70. On May 26, the CBSE had declared the Class 12 exam results.

Four students topped the examination by scoring 499 out of 500. Prakhar Mittal from Gurugram, Rimjhim Agarwal from Bijnor, Nandini Garg from Shamli, and Sreelakshmi G. from Cochin topped the examination. In the examinations this year, girls, with a pass percentage of 88.67, did better than the boys, who registered a pass percentage of 85.32.

As many as 1,31,493 candidates secured 90 per cent marks and above, while 27,426 candidates secured 95 per cent marks and above, the board said. According to a report by PTI, the top three performing regions are — Thiruvananthapuram (pass percentage 99.60), Chennai (97.37) and Ajmer (91.86).

Delhi recorded a pass percentage of 78.62. It must be noted that this was the first batch to appear for the Class 10 board examinations after the CBSE decided to junk the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and reintroduce the board exams. As per reports, over 16 lakh students had appeared for the Class 10 CBSE exams this year.

The board exams this year were marred by controversy with question paper leaks being reported from Delhi-NCR and Jharkhand. Among all the categories of schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools recorded the best pass percentage in the Class 10 board exams, while government schools registered the lowest pass percentage.

Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar congratulated the students who passed their Class 10 CBSE exams today and said the reintroduction of the board exam was an important step. “I congratulate those who have succeeded in their exams. Those who did not succeed should not lose heart. The students who have got compartment should prepare well and they will pass the exam,” Javadekar told reporters.
