In a horrific incident, a 15-year-old student of CBSE class 10, tried to commit suicide by hanging herself at her house in Jharkhand, Jamshedpur on March 15, 2018. According to media reports, the incident took place at Sitaramdera's Chhayanagar slum near Mahatma Gandhi Mission (MGM) Medical College Hospital during the afternoon around 1:00 pm. The girl was saved by one of her family members. She was spotted in a dupatta noose tied to a ceiling fan, her family member immediately loosened the knot after bringing her down. The 15-year-old has sustained neck injuries and was immediately taken to the local hospital.
The girl is critical and the doctors at the local hospital emergency later referred her to Tata Main Hospital in Bistupur. The assistant sub-inspector Dilip Kumar Yadav of Tata Main Hospital camp police station is waiting for the student to come in her senses to record her statement. Yadav stated, “The girl is still unconscious. We will wait for her statement.” Sitaramdera police station OC, Rameswar Oraon reported no case has been registered yet. “The girl is in serious condition. We will register a case only after getting a complaint,” added Oraon.
The CBSE candidate was appearing class 10 board examination since March 5 but took a frightful step and left everyone in shock. Reports further suggest that the girl’s father worked at a private firm in Golmuri. They informed that the teenager had a fight with her mother in the morning that day. One of her relative said, “She is an average student, but is unlikely for her to kill herself over exams. She had no paper today (Thursday).”
Student committing suicide has been increasing these days in India. The nation has one of the world’s highest suicide rates for teenagers. The reason again varies. Some fail in examinations, others does not get adequate family support or consolation causing such misfortune.
