If you are wondering how much you will have to shell out to sit for a ride in a Bullet train in India, then you are in for a surprise. As per a tentative structure prepared by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the fare to travel in a bullet train in India won’t be sky-high as it was projected earlier. However, it will take four more years for the project to complete, the buzz around India’s first bullet project is on a high.

It currently takes roughly around seven hours to reach Ahmedabad from Mumbai. It will be cut short to a little more than two hours only, in the bullet train. It will not only help in cutting down the commute time between the two cities but also will help people of Mumbai save time traveling inter-city.

If you are in a bullet train then it will take you only 10 minutes to travel from Thane to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), as against 30 minutes in a local train. The farther you travel, the more time you will be able to save. From Virar to BKC, the duration will be cut down to 24 minutes as against the current 40-minute travel in the local train. From Boisar to BKC it will take only 39 minutes, as compared to 90 minutes currently taken.

According to a Hindustan Time report, the NHSRCL’s estimate fare would be 1.5 times higher than the fare of first-class AC local. If you are planning to travel from Thane to BKC, a passenger will have to pay Rs. 250, while it will cost Rs. 500 to travel from Virar to BKC, and approximately Rs. 750 if planning to travel from Boisar to BKC.

The prototype of the bullet train along with the estimated fare structure is currently on display at the three-day Magnetic Maharashtra Conclave that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

The first bullet train will see Mumbai and Ahmedabad connected through a 508-km long rail project. It will have a total of 12 stations – BKC, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati – in its route.
