New Delhi, April 19: In a latest development, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has now introduced for booking railways tickets on its online portal. A registered IRCTC user can now book 12 train tickets with just 1 IRCTC ID if it's Aadhaar-linked. It must be noted that the user needs to link the 12-digit Aadhaar number with your IRCTC account.
Once the two accounts are linked. As per reports, over 1.3 million online tickets are booked through IRCTC portal - www.irctc.co.in while over 20 million people travel by Indian Railways every day. With the recent development, no Aadhaar Verification required for booking up to 6 tickets in a month, as earlier.

Here are the steps to Verify Aadhaar Number
- A user needs to login using your IRCTC User ID and Password on www.irctc.co.in.
- Click "Aadhaar KYC" link under "My Profile" menu and enter Your Aadhaar Number and Click on Send OTP button.
- The OTP will be sent by Aadhaar System (UIDAI) on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar. Please keep your Aadhaar registered mobile number ready.
- Enter the OTP and click on Verify button. Click on submit button to verify KYC details. After submission, your user is Aadhaar verified.
If a user wants to book more than 6 and up to 12 tickets, here are simple steps
- If a user wants to book more than 6 tickets and up to 12 tickets in a month on IRCTC, here what needs to be done.
- The user registered with IRCTC needs to verify his Aadhaar details using Aadhaar KYC option in My Profile.
- The user’s Aadhaar will be verified by sending an OTP on his mobile number linked with his Aadhaar number.
- On successful submission of OTP, the user will become Aadhaar verified.
It must be noted that at least one passenger on the ticket being booked, beyond 6 tickets in a month, should also be Aadhaar verified. The user can add Aadhaar verified passenger from master list at the time of booking to book additional tickets up to 12 tickets in a month.
To recall, the Supreme Court has extended for an indefinite period the deadline to link Aadhaar with services such as mobile phone, banking and insurance, but made an exception for state-run welfare schemes and subsidies provided by the government. In March, a five-judge Constitution bench led by CJI Dipak Misra had ruled the government will not insist on the 12-digit unique identification number for a number of services, including holding common entrance tests and issuing passports.
