Businessman and actor Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra was summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in the connection of the infamous bitcoin scam. He was called for his alleged involvement in the bitcoin trade which is illegal in India as of now. However, Kundra recently released an official statement on the whole controversy saying that he has whatsoever no involvement in the scam.
The official statement reads, "This is to clarify that Raj Kundra has no involvement or connection to the Bitcoin scam whatsoever. He has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate merely as a witness. Raj is cooperating with the law enforcement agency as Amit Bhardwaj is an acquaintance and protocol is being followed. Raj's statement “Amit was to buy a team in poker league and had got into a contract with us I have come as a witness to the same”
For those who came late, the IT department is strictly taking an action against those who are involved in the scam as bitcoins or the virtual currencies (VCs) are not made legal in India. However, owing to the trend of the trade in this format, Bollywood fell prey to the fascination of this new currency.
Not only Raj Kundra, but other Bollywood celebs like Neha Dhupia, Vir Das, Nargis Fakhri, R. Madhavan, Huma Qureshi, Prachi Desai too grabbed the headlines because of their involvement in the currency trade. ED had earlier filed a criminal case against Amit Bhardwaj and his company GainBitcoin+ for duping people of Rs 2000 crore from Maharashtra including from the cities like in Mumbai, Pune, Nanded, Kolhapur.
