New Delhi, August 4: A group of state finance ministers, headed by Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi, gave its nod and agreed on providing cashback facility to customers in order to boost digital payments under GST via BHIM UPI app or rupay card.
The recommendation made by the Group of Ministers (GOMs), who suggested "incentivising" digital transactions, include names such as Gujarat deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, West Bengal finance minister Amit Mitra, Haryana excise and taxation minister Capt Abhimanyu and the finance minister of Punjab, Manpreet Singh Badal.
The GoMs, in their decision, have allowed for a cashback of as much as 20 per cent of the total GST paid up to Rs 100 per transaction, for payments made through RuPay cards, BHIM App and UPI.
The decision is expected to benefit the holders of RuPay card and is a welcome news for those using the BHIM App. According to Sushil Modi, the move will help those residing in semi-urban and rural parts of the country.
Sushil Modi, further added that the proposal will now be presented to the GST Council, which will take up the go-ahead nod given by the GoM in the GST Council meet on Saturday. The decision is only applicable for the RuPay card holders and users of BHIM App.
