Mumbai, April 06: If the violence that took place during the Bharat Bandh protests on April 2 weren’t enough dreadful, another message is being floated on social media about the same. Will there be another episode of violence take place in parts of the country that took place last week? It cannot be confirmed, but then there are messages going viral over the Internet that Bharat bandh will happen on April 10.
As per a report in leading Hindi Daily of Madhya Pradesh, there will be another shutdown that will take place on April 10. Which organisation is going to support it, which political party has pledged its allegiance, or which religious outfit has called for it, is all a speculation now. As no party or organisation has claimed for the call of Bharat Bandh.
9 killed, hundreds injured, and thousands were rendered disturbed as Bharat Bandh took place on April 2 in different parts of India. The violence across states saw miscreants disrupting public transport, clashing with the police, and also setting the public property on fire.
On April 2, nationwide protests took place, majorly in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Odisha, Gujarat, Haryana and Delhi. There were curfews being imposed in several regions to maintain the law and order in the state.
The protests were organised by several Dalit groups, who were angry over Supreme Court’s recent ruling in the Schedule Castes / Schedule Tribes (SCs/STs) Act. As per them, the recent ruling by the Supreme Court had diluted the SC/ST Act and it was virtually worthless to have such a law in place.
The verdict left a lot of Dalit groups fuming and political parties in the opposition left no stone unturned by fuelling this fire. A lot of opposition parties had extended their support to the protests, which were organised by several Dalit outfits, but then, had condemned the violence taking place, too.
Will we witness another Bharat Band on April 10 or not? We cannot confirm it. There are messages being circulated on the social media (WhatsApp, Messenger etc.) about the same. However, the state authorities and police department in several states - particularly Madhya Pradesh - have taken cognizance of the situation and have readied themselves, perhaps in a better manner, to tackle the situation if and when the need arises.
