Mumbai, June 16: A 32-year old BEST bus driver was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in a moving bus. According to reports, the brutal incident took place when the minor was sleeping alone on the back seat of a private luxury bus while returning from Shirdi. Reports further informed that the family had boarded a Mumbai-bound bus from Shirdi after offering prayers at the shrine on June 12.

According to reports by The Hindu, the accused driver has been identified as Sopan Ugale (32).  Ugale works as a driver at the Goregaon depot of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport undertaking. The crime branch unit 12 arrested Ugle and handed over him to Kurar police in Malad. The report informs that a family of four, including a six-year-old girl, was seated in the second-last row but when the girl started feeling uneasy, the parents placed her in the window seat next to Ugale.

The incident came into light after the child complained to her mother about pain and then shared her ordeal. Also, the mother found injury marks on the minor’s private parts and soon father then called up the bus attendant and found that the bus had reached Borivali.

The child’s parents then filed a complaint regarding the assault. The medical reports of the minor confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. When the parents came to know, they approached the Kurar police.
