Bengaluru, September 26: Several organisations have called for a 12-hour Bengaluru Bandh in response to the Karnataka government's decision to allocate Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Reports indicate that several organizations, including farmer associations and pro-Kannada groups, have announced a Bengaluru bandh on September 26. The bandh is scheduled to take place from 6 am to 6 pm and is a result of their protest against the disputed release of Cauvery river water from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. Many organisations and businesses have supported the Bengaluru bandh. Farmers' organisations and pro-Kannada activists have appealed to the schools, colleges, markets, and IT companies in the city to support their protest by shutting down the institutions for a day. Initially, some colleges had confirmed their participation, but now, an official holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Bengaluru.   • Namma Metro services will continue to operate as usual by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
  • Essential services such as hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies and government offices will remain open.
  • Despite expressing their moral support for the bandh, restaurants are considered essential services and will continue to operate and remain open on September 26.
  • Government offices and banks will remain open during the Bengaluru Bandh.

What's Closed?

  • A holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges in Bengaluru.
  • State-run Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) may be affected.
  • Airport taxi services are likely to be impacted during the Bengaluru bandh. Similarly, Ola-Uber drivers and workers union has also expressed support for the shutdown.
  • Commercial establishments, malls, and industries will remain shut during the bandh.
  • Theatres and multiplexes will also observe a shutdown owing to the call for the Bengaluru Bandh.

The Karnataka cabinet has announced that a decision concerning the sharing of water with Tamil Nadu will be made during the upcoming meeting of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee on September 26.
