Bank Holidays in May 2019: Check Dates When Banks Will be Closed This Month

The month of May will see several days when banks will not be working or remain closed. Different banks in different states in India remain closed on specific dates of regional and national importance.

Mumbai, May 2: The month of May starts with a Bank holiday as May 1 is celebrated as Labour Day or May Day. Banks were closed in Maharashtra and Gujarat on Wednesday, May 1, as the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat celebrate their foundation day on May 1. Different banks in different parts of India will remain closed in May on different dates. This is due to the fact that various states have their own important days in India which hold cultural value and the banks are closed as a mark of respect and so that bank employees can participate in the holidays by being with their family members as well. Happy New Year 2019! May 7, 2019- Basava Jayanthi 

Basava Jayanthi is a Government holiday in the state of Karnataka. All the banks in the state of Karnataka will remain closed on May 7, 2019.

May 9, 2019- Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti

All the banks in the state of West Bengal will remain closed on Thursday, May 9, on Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti.

Other than West Bengal, banks will also remain closed in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Tripura.

May 11, 2019 - Second Saturday

Banks will remain closed on May 11 as it is second Saturday. Banks do not work on second Saturdays.

May 16, 2019- Sikkim Statehood Day 

All the banks in Sikkim will be closed on May 16 as it is celebrated as Sikkim Statehood Day.

May 18, 2019- Buddha Purnima 

Banks all across India will be closed on May 18, as it is Buddha Purnima.

May 25, 2019- Fourth Saturday. 

As per the norms, banks are closed on second and fourth Saturdays. In May 2019, second Saturday falls on May 11 and the fourth Saturday on May 25. Both the days will be holidays for the banks. However in addition to both these days, the month of May 2019 will also witness third Saturday as a bank holiday in most states. We advice customers to plan their bank visits and activities accordingly.
