A man's attempt at theft at an ATM in Delhi went horribly wrong when his hand got within the machine itself. The thief identified as Nazir alias Babu (22) was trying to break in with a gas cutter. The incident took place in Vishwas Nagar near Shahdara late on Monday, April 2, 2018. The authorities noticed something fishy when the CCTV cameras went blank at the kiosk. The cops found Nazir's hand stuck inside the machine and seized the cutter and gloves from him.

The Police Control Room received a call at 11.30pm from the bank about a theft at the ATM on street number 3 in Vishwas Nagar. When the van reached there, they found the shutter was half shut and even the doors were closed. On opening the doors, the cops found a man with his face covered, trying to cut open the machine. Moreover, his hand was stuck inside the machine. He was arrested and booked for theft and trespassing.

During the interrogation, Nazir confessed that he did a recce around the place and found no security guards. He used spray paint to blacken the CCTV cameras installed inside. The bank staffer noticed this and immediately alerted the police. Now cops are further investigating if Nazir was part of the gang that uprooted and fled with ATM machines in Delhi some months before. The arrested man used to work as an electrician at a company in Aurangabad, Maharashtra before he shifted to Delhi.

Delhi has been witnessing several ATM thefts in the last few days. A machine was taken away from Bindapur area. As much as caution Nazir took from his end, the alertness by the bank officials has resulted in preventing a major theft.
