1.90 crore out of 3.29 crore people of Assam has finally been declared as legal citizens of India while the remaining wait in the queue. The long-awaited first-draft of National Register Citizens (NRC) was released at the midnight of 2017. With the release of the first draft Registrar-General of India (RGI), Sailesh notifies that the NRC preparation is an enduring process, verification of the rest is on and the final complete sheet shall be shared in the future.
“It is a historic day for all of us. It was a huge task that had begun in December 2013 and while over 3.29 people have applied for inclusion in the NRC, we have so far verified about 1.90 crore names that have been included in the first part draft,” RGI Sailesh was quoted while addressing a press conference held to release the first draft NRC in Guwahati.
Adding to this, NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela confirms people whose names are not on the list must not worry. “It is a tedious process to verify the names.
