Srinagar, May 6: An encounter broke out between security forces and a group of terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir today. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation this morning after getting inputs about the presence of terrorists in Badigam Imama Sahib in Zainapora area of the south Kashmir district. The encounter broke out when the terrorists fired upon the forces.
Two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped at the encounter site. One policeman and one army officer have been injured in the ongoing gunfight. A police official told PTI, “The search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants fired upon the forces, which was retaliated.”
Yesterday three Lakshkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists including Lashkar commander, Showkat Ahmed Tak, were killed in a gunfight in Srinagar's Chattabal area. Three Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) jawans were injured in the gunfight. One civilian was also killed in clashes which erupted after protesters started pelting stones at the forces near the encounter site.
