Srinagar, May 28: The two terrorists who were killed in an encounter Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district earlier today were affiliated with terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). One of the terrorists was a Pakistani national. A huge amount of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the encounter site. Clashes were also reported between Security forces and local youth.
The gun battle took place in the forests of Kokernag as the security forces were flushing out the hiding terrorists. The gun battle started earlier in the day during a search and cordon operation launched on specific inputs. The forces sealed all exit points to ensure the terrorists did not escape. As the cordon tightened the terrorists fired at the security personnel triggering the gunfight. Mobile internet facilities were also suspended after the encounter. Meanwhile, the number of locals joining terror groups have reduced considerably over the last five months. Speaking to reporters, Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh said, “There are around 275 terrorists out of which around 75 are foreign terrorists and others are locals. He added that the number is decreasing and only 40 locals have joined in the last 5 and a half months.
