Mumbai, March 23: Incidents of passengers getting violent with airline crew keep surfacing time and again but the case of a cabin supervisor slapping a flight attendant onboard an Air India flight has brought to notice a problem that some experts say has been existing in the airline sector for some time now: that of cabin supervisors getting violent with cabin crew or attendants. An Air India cabin supevisor slapped a flight attendant onboard over wrongly served non-veg meal.

The incident that took place onboard AI flight 121 on March 17, is sure to alert the other cabin crews in airline industry. According to a report by the Times of India, a source was quoted as saying “A flight attendant mistakenly served a business-class passenger non-vegetarian meal instead of a vegetarian one. The passenger, who was seated on 1D, saw it was wrong meal and pointed it out to the cabin supervisor who happened to be around.” The cabin supervisor is the person in charge of cabin crew on a flight and the TOI report mentions that this cabin supervisor was also an Air India nodal officer, which is quite a powerful post.

The supervisor, reportedly lost her control and slapped the flight attendant. But the flight attendant remained calm and did not react or retaliate as she didn't want to create a scene onboard and behaved with utmost professionalism. The report further mentions that the flight attendant filed a complaint with the department head.

Only last year, on March 23 2017, Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad had kicked and even punched a senior Air India ground staffer in Delhi after abusing him over a small argument. The incident created quite a furore in the aviation sector and subsequently, MP Ravindra Gaikwad became the first passenger in the history of India to be banned by all airlines. The Air India airlines has not commented on the issue of cabin supervisor getting violent with crew member/flight attendant and has not issued any statement, yet.
