Mumbai, April 21: Gangster Abu Salem, who is currently serving a life sentence for his involvement in 1993 Mumbai blasts, is not lucky enough to get parole for his marriage. Salem had written to jail authorities on February 16, seeking a 45-day parole to marry Mumbai-based Sayed Bahar Kausar alias Heena. As per reports, the Navi Mumbai commissioner has rejected parole application of 1993 Mumbai blasts case convict. It must be noted that this is the second time that the plea has been being rejected.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Salem had stated in his plea that he was planning to tie the knot on May 5, 2018. The report further informs that Salem had reportedly said that he would be staying at Kausar’s home in Mumbra for the duration of the parole. The plea for parole mentioned Mohammed Salim Abdul Razak Memon and Mohammed Rafique Sayyed, believed to be his cousins, as guarantors.
In 2017, Salem moved a Mumbai court seeking parole or temporary bail for marriage. He had submitted citations of two high courts claiming convicts were given such relief for entering into wedlock. The mob boss had given his consent for marrying a 26- year-old woman who had approached the special TADA court in June 2015 seeking permission for it. "We have given the court two citations--one from the Bombay High Court and another from the Delhi High Court -- stating that a person can be granted bail or parole for marriage," said Salem's lawyer Farhana Shah had said.
Reports by PTI state that the TADA court here had convicted Salem and five others in June for their role in the serial bomb blasts of March 12, 1993, in which 257 people were killed. Later in September 2017, the special Tada court disallowed the marriage application of gangster Abu Salem, terming it infructuous and disposed off the issue. “The application is disposed off as its infructuous," the special court said.
