Abu Salem Convicted in 2002 Extortion Case by Delhi's Patiala House Court

Dreaded gangster and the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case convict Abu Salem, has been convicted by Delhi's Patiala House Court in the 2002 extortion case against him. Salem, who was facing trial for demanding Rs 50 million (Rs 5 crores) from Delhi businessman Ashok Gupta in 2002 has been convicted by Delhi's Patiala House Court in the case.

Salem had earlier claimed that the prosecution did not have enough evidence against him in the case. He had even managed to get bail in the case. However, a fresh production warrant was issued against the gangster in February, 2018.

The case, which has come to be known as the Abu Salem Extortion case, is one of the cases that the gangster has been convicted in. The underworld don had earlier claimed that his trial in the case was violating an order under which he was extradited to India from Portugal in the year 2005. He has now been convicted in the extortion case for demanding Rs 5 crore as protection money from businessman Ashok Gupta. Salem continues to be in jail for his role in various criminal cases, most prominent of them being the Mumbai serial blasts in 1993 which killed over 257 people and injured about thousand people, causing massive loss of lives and property.
