New Delhi, February 21: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan was on Wednesday detained at Jamia Nagar Police Station in connection with the alleged assault of Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash. Earlier this morning, Amanatullah Khan reached Jamia Nagar Police Station and said that he has come to surrender. “I have not done anything wrong”, the accused was quoted by ANI. The recent development comes a day after Amanatullah refuted charge that he had assaulted Delhi Chief Secretary during a meeting at CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.
On Tuesday, AAP legislator Prakash Jarwal was detained in connection with the alleged assault. He was picked up from his house at Deoli and detained.
Anshu Prakash on Tuesday, alleged that he was assaulted by two legislators of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during a meeting at the chief minister’s home, thus triggering a war between the Delhi bureaucracy and the Delhi government. The AAP has however termed the allegations “motivated” and “ludicrous”.
Prakash, in his complaint, said that he was called for a meeting on the release of a television advertisement and that he was assaulted, allegedly for not doing enough publicity for the government. The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan and others on the basis of Prakash's complaint. According to the FIR, various sections including 120B (criminal conspiracy), 186 (obstructing a public servant from performing the duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342, 504, 506(B), 120b, 34 and 353 (assault on public servant) of IPC have been slapped against the MLA.
In wake of the incident, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Twitter, “I am deeply pained by the happenings involving the Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government. The civil servants should be allowed to work with dignity and without fear”. Meanwhile, the Indian Administrative Service Association also took to Twitter to condemn the coward act. “Strongly condemn the assault on Chief Secretary, Delhi. It’s a criminal, cowardly & deplorable act and an assault on the Constitution. We stand by our colleagues in Delhi and demand immediate arrest of the perpetrators of such shameful act”, the tweet said.
