New Delhi, June 30: The deadline to link Aadhar card with Pan Card has been extended on Saturday. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline to March 31, 2019. It is the fifth extension granted by the government. Earlier, CBDT had fixed June 30, 2018, as the last date for linking Aadhaar card with PAN
The government has made mandatory to link Adhaar with PAN for filing Income Tax Returns. The individuals who do not link the two documents will not be able to file the return. The petition has already been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the legality of mandatory linkage of Aadhaar to various services. The top court is yet to announce the verdict.
According to the government notification released today, the maximum late fee for not filing income tax returns is Rs 10,000 per person effective April 1, 2018. Notices will also be sent to tax offenders under section 142(1) for filing ITR.
Steps to Link Aadhar Card With PAN Card:
To link Aadhar with PAN, one needs to open the website, incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. On the homepage of income tax-e-filing website, a hyperlink has been provided to link the two documents, then click on ‘Link Aadhar’. On the Page which appears, enter the name (as printed on the Aadhaar card), UID number and PAN. And then after putting the captcha code, click on submit.
People can also link Aadhar with Pan via SMS. PAN holders need to send an SMS at 56767 or 56161 in the following format: UIDPAN <SPACE> <12-digit Aadhaar> <SPACE> <10-digit PAN>.
