Till now, around 8.1 million Aadhaar numbers have been reportedly deactivated by UIDAI. The good news is that the inactive Aadhaars can be reactivated. When can Aadhaar be deactivated?
Aadhaar can deactivate if not used for three consecutive years. So it means that, if you haven't linked your unique ID number with your bank account, PAN, EPFO to claim pension, it is likely that your Aadhaar can get de-activated. The children below the age of five, need to update the details again after completing five years. As mandated by UIDAI, a child who enrolled for Aadhaar before 15 years of age may have to update the details after they attain the age of 15. Failing to which, Aadhaar might be blocked. How to check if your Aadhaar is active?
- Go to the UIDAI website and Aadhaar services tab, click on 'Verify Aadhaar Number' link on the right-hand side.
- Enter 12-digit Aadhaar number in the relevant box to verify if your Aadhaar number is valid or not.
- Enter a security code displayed as an image
- If your Aadhaar number is valid, the page will be shown, which will display a message confirming the status of the Aadhaar number entered.
- In case of inactive number, the page will not display the number.
How to activate Aadhaar again?
If your Aadhar is deactivated, it can be reactivated upon re-verification of your biometrics along with required documents. For this, relocate the nearest enrolment centre. Fill up the Aadhar update form and submit the document. After this, you will need to provide biometric verification. If the previous biometric matches with the new one, the Aadhaar will be activated. For this process, you have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 25 at the enrolment centre.
