Mumbai, February 5: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)- the body that issues Aadhaar card to all the citizens of India recently clarified on the updation and enrolment charges related to the 12-digit Unique Identity Number. The UIDAI took to microblogging site Twitter to inform general public that the enrolment for Aadhaar is free but people will be charged for updation of their biometric details.
“Aadhaar Enrolment is FREE. If the center charges you, DO NOT pay. Report to us. We have zero tolerance for corruption or process violation. For updation charges, UIDAI has permitted its registrars to charge up to Rs 25 + 18% GST, as applicable (Approx Rs 30) for Aadhaar update. If the center charges you more, DO NOT pay. Report to us. We have zero tolerance for corruption or process violation”, the UIDAI said.
The UIDAI further added saying that if any individual is asked to pay more than the said amount, he/she can report about them with the complete address of the center, name of enrolment agent, the individual’s email Id and mobile number via private message. “We will create a complaint on your behalf and action shall be taken. We have very strict rules against any corrupt practice in the system”, the UIDAI added.

The UIDAI said any resident with a registered mobile number can update the Aadhaar address using the UIDAI portal. "Registered Mobile number is mandatory to receive a password for login," the UIDAI adds. The UIDAI portal only allows a user to update his or her address given on Aadhaar through this portal. For other updates, the users can visit an Aadhaar enrollment or update center, according to the UIDAI.
The Aadhaar issuing body also said that there is no last date set for enrolment or updation of data fed into Aadhaar card. Citing some rumours being spread on social media in this regard, the UIDAI said, “THERE IS NO LAST DATE for Aadhaar enrolment/ update.
