New Delhi, September 19: All India Railwaymen's Federation General Secretary, Shiv Gopal Mishra, expressed optimism that the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission would be implemented starting January 2026, despite the Centre not yet constituting the commission. Speaking to NDTV Profit, Mishra assured that if there is any delay in implementation, employees would still receive arrears for the period.

Mishra, who also serves as the staff-side secretary of the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), revealed  to NDTV Profit that he had written to the Union Cabinet Secretary, urging the government to form the 8th Pay Commission. While no official proposal has been acknowledged by the government regarding 8th pay commission, Mishra stated that assurances were given to consider the demand. Meetings with former and current Cabinet Secretaries, including Rajiv Gauba and TV Somanathan, have reinforced these efforts. 7th Pay Commission News Update: DA Hike on Cards for Central Govt Employees, Check Details.

Fitment Factor and Wage Revision

The 7th Pay Commission, formed in 2014, led to salary increases with a fitment factor of 2.57. Mishra stated that the employee forum will push for a higher fitment factor with the upcoming pay panel. He also noted that under the 7th Pay Commission guidelines, wages are already eligible for revision as the dearness allowance (DA) crossed 50% in March, with the recent 4% DA hike.

Mishra said that timely wage revisions are crucial, stressing that the implementation date of the pay commission is more important than its formation date.
