Mumbai, September 23: Central government employees are eagerly awaiting good news about the increase in the dearness allowance (DA). While news reports suggest that the Narendra Modi government is likely to announce a 4 per cent DA hike soon, there has been no official update as yet. Amidst all of this, there seems to be good news for government employees of Uttar Pradesh.

If reports are to be believed, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh will likely announce a DA hike for its employees soon. According to sources close to the development, the Uttar Pradesh government is likely to announce a dearness allowance hike for its employees by Diwali 2024. Last year, the Uttar Pradesh government increased the DA by four per cent for all employees, teachers, and pensioners. Notably, the hike was announced just before the Diwali festival. Rumours are that a bonus for non-gazetted employees in the state could also be declared. The decision to hike the DA by four per cent will benefit both government employees and pensioners.

It must be noted that DA is given to government employees, while DR is provided to pensioners. Every year, DA and DR are hiked in January and July, with announcements usually made in March and then in September or October. However, Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance had informed the Rajya Sabha on July 30 that no proposal for the new pay commission was under consideration despite demands from employee unions. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted in February 2014 and later implemented in January 2016.
