Delhi, December 14: There is a major shocking and disappointing news for central government employees. Employees who have been breathlessly waiting for update on payment of 18 months DA Arrears on 7th pay commission recommendations should be highly disappointed as the government has provided written information before the Rajya Sabha. The Government today clarified that the release of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief arrears for Central government employees and pensioners for the period of the COVID pandemic is not considered feasible.

The Dearness Relief pensioners will not receive the arrears of the DA Arrear as per 7th pay commission, the Finance Ministry made explicit in the Rajya Sabha. The Ministry of Finance was asked whether Government has received several representations regarding the release of arrears of Dearness Relief to Central Government pensioners for 18 months from January 2020 to June 2021. 7th Pay Commission: Good News Likely for Central Govt Employees, Centre May Soon Take Final Call on Fitment Factor Hike and DA Arrears

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in a written reply said that because of the adverse impact of the pandemic in 2020 and the financing of welfare measures taken by the Centre that had a fiscal spillover beyond the Financial Year 2020-21.

The central government in July 2021 reinstated Dearness Allowance. Beginning on July 1, 2021, the government increased the dearness allowance by 11%. After that, the dearness allowance increased from 17 to 28 per cent starting in July 2021 on 7th pay commission recommendations.

Dearness Allowance is currently at 38%. However, the workers also demanded compensation for the 18 months that the dearness allowance was halted.
