Cuddalore, April 30: Almost 73 people including six children and 14 women have been hospitalised due to food poisoning. According to the news reports, the devotees' condition deteriorated after eating prasad at Amman temple Virudachalam village of Tamil Nadu today. The devotees took 'Sambar' rice offered at the temple during the festival, but soon after that, they complained of giddiness and vomiting and were taken to the nearby government-run hospital at Virudachalam.
The devotees over there have alleged that a dead lizard was found in the rice served to them. Virudachalam, Revenue Divisional officer, S Chandra also visited the hospital to check the health of devotees. Meanwhile, a case has been registered by the local police station, and an investigation is going on regarding the same.
In a similar incident on April 5, two women who were among the 30 people hospitalised after eating 'prasad' in a temple of Coimbatore, died.
