Gorakhpur, May 28: A 20-year-old boy of a backward caste was found hanging upside down from a tree in Lala Tola village in Pipraich area of Gorakhpur on Sunday. According to police, Ramesh Nishad was beaten to death allegedly by the family members of a 21-year-old girl belonging to upper caste. The 20-year-old was accused of being found in a compromising position with the girl.
The victim’s family tried to set the house of the accused on fire. The police intervened to avoid any such incident. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, personnel from four police stations and one company of the provincial armed constabulary (PAC) was deployed to avert any unwanted incident.
Station house officer, Pipraich, Arun Shukla told Hindustan Times that three people, including the girl’s parents and brother, were arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by Heera Lal Nishad, father of the victim. The police after reaching the spot took Ramesh to BRD Medical College where he was declared dead by doctors. However, according to the girl’s family, Nishad was found in a compromising position, but it was not confirmed by the police
The girl’s parents also alleged Nishad of entering their house to harass their daughter. Villagers, however, claimed that the couple were in a relationship, but both the families refuted the charges. Police stated that the couple were in a relationship, but the two families were not happy with this relation.
A local told Hindustan Times that the couple had eloped last month after which the girl’s family lodged a police complaint against Nishad. He further added that t both the families had compromised that Nishad would not meet the girl, but they continued their relationship.
