Indore, August 2: In a shocking case of harassment, a newly married couple who fled from their respective homes were forced to drink urine by the bride's family. According to a Times of India report, the newlywed was sleeping in the house of the groom's uncle, when relatives from the bride's family barged in. They dragged the couple out and started beating them brutally. The man was allegedly tied to a pole, and thrashed, while the girl's hair was chopped off. They tore their clothes and forced them to drink urine.
In another shocking incident from Ghaziabad, Muslim man was beaten up at the registrar's office for attempting to marry a Hindu girl. A few days back, a couple attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison in Hisar. They were saved because the couple were taken immediately to the hospital. Looking at the state in which they were, families from both the sides agreed to their marriage, and at the ICU where they were admitted, a small ceremony took place.
We may be in the 21st century, but things haven't progressed on this front, especially in the rural areas Parents, societies continue to raise an objection regarding inter caste and love marriages.
