New Delhi, July 26: While speaking in the Rajya Sabha today, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that Rs 139.20 crore was earned from the sale of platform tickets in the year 2018-19. In addition to this, from advertisements and shops including those on the platforms, Rs 230.47 crore was earned in the period mentioned above. Last month, Goyal mentioned that Indian Railways has earned Rs 204.10 crore and Rs 223.53 crore during financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively from non-fare revenues.

The Minister highlighted that Indian Railways is not incurring losses and shared his plans to generate more revenues. Reportedly, the railways have issued policies for generating non-fare revenues from sources such as mobile assets, out of home advertising, rail display network and content on-demand.
For modernisation of Indian Railways, the Indian government has developed a five-year capital expenditure programme of USD 132 billion. The plan comprises-electrification of railway tracks, network expansion and decongestion, enhancement of safety and passenger amenities, development of dedicated freight corridors, station redevelopment, and procurement of rolling stock and other related assets.
