Srinagar, June 14: An Indian Army Jawan named Aurangzeb Khan was on Thursday abducted by terrorists from Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Jawan belonged to 44 Rashtriya Rifles and was posted in Shopian, where he was part of the anti-terror operations. He was a part of the operation that killed terrorist Sameer Tiger earlier. A massive search operation has been launched to look for the jawan.

The kidnapped jawan, who is a resident of Poonch, was going home after his duty reportedly for Eid when he was intercepted by a group of heavily-armed terrorists who kidnapped him at gunpoint. When he was abducted, he was reportedly travelling in a passenger vehicle. The Army has initiated a probe in the matter.

Reacting to the incident, Retired Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain, tweeted, "Aurangzeb, reported to be the buddy of Maj Shukla who developed a fine reputation for conduct of operations. Belongs to Poonch and probably used the Mughal Route via Pir Gali. Risky thing no doubt especially if he was well known for being an effective warrior with his officer."

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted, "A very worrying development. Here’s hoping the security forces are able to retrieve the jawan safe & sound very quickly."

In an encounter earlier on Thursday morning, two terrorists and an Army jawan were killed in in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district. In another terror attack, terrorists opened fire at a joint check point of CRPF and Police near Pulwama's Gangoo today.
