‘Khadi’ will be the new uniform for the staff members at India Post. From February 2018, the nation will witness 90,000 post-office employees walking in a chic Khadi attire. The development comes on Martyr’s Day – the death commemorating Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

The design of the uniform was presented by National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). The new dress carries the logo of 'India Post' on the pocket and the cap, along with red stripes on shoulders and shoulder blade, but the colour ‘khaki’ of the uniform will still remain the same as it was before. Previously, the uniform included ‘Gandhi Topi’ but this time it will be flaunting the ‘p-cap’.

The uniforms will be delivered from 37 different Khadi Institutions of India. Department of Post will offer Rs. 5000 to each employee as an annual uniform allowance.

Talking about the government’s latest initiative, an official of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) said that it has already bagged the order of approximately Rs. 48 crore after the announcement. It will be an advantage for artisans as it will certainly increase their income structure.

Adding to it, the official also mentioned that the women-officials will be given two pairs of salwar-kameez, designed with an elegant look costing Rs. 1,700 for each pair. Whereas the men-officials will be given two pairs of shirts and trousers each pair costing Rs. 1,600.
