According to the advisory, on all important events- national, cultural, sports, flags made up of paper are to be used, and they are not to be discarded by throwing it on the ground after the event.
New Delhi, August 14: Ahead of Indians celebrating their 72nd Independence Day, the Home Ministry in an advisory to states and Union Territories has urged citizens not to use national flags made up of plastic and ensure strict compliance of the flag code. According to a PTI report, the flag represents hopes and aspirations of the people of India and hence should occupy a position of honour.
The advisory stated that since plastic flags are not biodegradable like paper flags, they do not get decomposed for a long time and therefore ensuring appropriate disposal of the national flag made of plastic commensurate with the dignity of the flag, is a practical problem.
According to the advisory, on all important events- national, cultural, sports, flags made up of paper are to be used, and they are not to be discarded by throwing it on the ground after the event. These flags will have to be disposed of, in private, consistent with the dignity of the flag. There should be publicity and enough promotion that national flag made of plastic should not be used on the electronic and the print media.
