‘If There Are Funds for Durga Puja Clubs, Why Not for Us?’ Kolkata Imams Ask Mamata Banerjee, to Organise Mega Rally Against CM

West Bengal, October 3: Influential clerics and scholars across the state are taking out a rally demanding hike in stipend to Imams and state funds for least 10,000 Madrasas across the state. According to a Times Now report, they have accused the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of playing the majority appeasement card, the clerics have asked if there are enough funds for Durga Puja clubs, why are there not enough fund for Imams in West Bengal. One of the Muslim Cleric, as quoted in the report, said, "When we chose Mamata over others, we will get justice, but in these 7 years there has been no development nor has there been any justice. From the last 6 years, Imams are only getting a stipend of Rs 2,500 per month.
Mamata Banerjee has recently awarded Rs Rs 10,000 each to 28,000 Durga Puja committees across the state, including 3,000 in Kolkata. Last year, when she had ordered against Durga Puja idol immersions on the day of Muharram, the move invited charges of minority appeasement card.
