Kolkata, Mar 19: A housewife in West Bengal's East Midnapore district committed suicide after three high school students and another individual uploaded her "private" photos online.

The victim, in her mid-thirties, hanged herself to death at her residence in East Midnapore's Chandipur town on March 17. Leaving behind a suicide note, she blamed the four accused of abetting her suicide as she was "dishonoured" with her private images going public.

Superintendent of Police (East Midnapore) V Solomon Nesakumar said the woman, in her mid-thirties, had lost her phone a few days back when she had went to drop her daughter at the dance class.

The phone was found by one of the accused, a Class 10 student, who returned it to her -- but not before transferring her intimate images on his cell phone, the police said.

The accused began blackmailing the victim, seeking money in lieu of deleting the photographs. In one of the phone calls, the victim's brother claimed, the accused threatened to upload the images on social media if she did not send more nude photos to them.

"They actually carried out their threat, and my sister decided that death was better than dishonour," he was reported as saying by HT.

While the names of the minor accused have not been reported, the only major among them has been identified as 21-year-old Chandan Guchait. Two among the three minors are 16-year-old students, whereas, one is 17-year-old.

The four have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody for two weeks.
