Dharamshala, July 28: At least 12 people, including three children, were injured when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Chadhiar in Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. The bus was carrying 14 passengers from Chadhiar to Jaisinghpur.
Prima facie it seems that the bus met with the accident due to techinicle glitch, according to Kangra senior superintendent of police (SSP) Santosh Patial. “Bus driver Pratap Singh, who is among the injured, in his statement to the police claimed that the vehicle went out of control due to the failure of breaks,” Patil was quoted as saying.
The bus driver said the steering also got stucked before it fell into the gorge. Locals were the first who rushed to help injured persons and teams were also sent from Palampur and Jaisinghpur. Four grievously injured were sent to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) in Tanda, while rest were admitted to the Community Health Centre in Jaisinghpur, and civil hospital of Palampur.
A case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the driver. A probe has been ordered. A similar incident took place in Maharashtra where 32 university staffers were killed and one miraculously survived when a private bus on a picnic trip plunged into a deep ravine near Poladpur.
