Bhubaneswar, April 21: Most parts of Odisha sizzled under gruelling heat today with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in at least a dozen places in the state.
Balangir was the hottest place in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius, the Regional Meteorological Centre said. Closely following Balangir was Jharsuguda where the mercury shot up to 43.2 degrees Celsius, while the temperature stood at 42.6 degrees Celsius in Sonepur, 42.2 degrees in Sambalpur, 42.1 degrees in Hirakud and 42 degrees in Titlagarh, it said.
The coal town of Talcher recorded a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius, while it was 41.5 degrees in Bhawanipatna, 41.1 degrees in Angul, 40.2 degrees in Malkangiri, 40.1 degrees in Dhenkanal and 40 degrees in Phulbani.
In state capital Bhubaneswar, the mercury rose to 39.2 degrees Celsius from 36.6 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday, while in neighbouring Cuttack city, it stood at 38.5 degrees Celsius.
