Hardik Patel on Indefinite Hunger Strike: Doctor Clarifies on His Weight Loss During Fasting
The leader started being trolled on social media for gaining weight during his fast.
Hardik Patel had launched his fast on August 25 for demands, including farm loan waiver and reservation for the Patidar community under OBC category in government jobs and education sector. There have been reports on the media which said that Patel has lost 20 kgs while fasting till now. Post which, the BJP-led state government held a meeting with several key leaders of the Patidar community at Gandhinagar on Tuesday night, hours after doctors expressed concern over his health. According to reports, Patel has continually refused to provide blood or urine samples for the third consecutive day, thus raising questions about whether he was actually observing the fast. The leader started being trolled on social media for gaining weight during his fast.
However, according to an India Today report, Patel before he started his fast weighed 78 kg, and according to Tuesday this week, his weight was measured to be 58 kg. On Wednesday, his weight was recorded at 65 kgs. News spread like wild-fire that he has started gaining weight while fasting. The confusion was later clarified by the medical team, who said that his weight didn't fall by 20 kgs, but by 13 kgs.

As quoted in the report, the doctor from Sola Civil Hospital said "We had asked for his blood sample but he refused. He is facing difficulties in breathing. That's why we advised him to be hospitalised. We have recommended ORS and juice. Earlier a loss in weight was recorded, but there a is a discrepancy due to an error in scale that is why some plus-minus was recorded."
