Panaji, June 29: Police have arrested a 48-year-old taxi driver on Friday for allegedly raping a 20-year-old girl in Vasco Town, Goa. The driver has been sent to seven-day police remand by court. The incident occurred on Thursday evening.
The 48-year-old accused has been identified as Ravichandra Bhat. As per police, he raped the girl near the airport in Vasco town. Vasco police inspector Nolasco Raposo told Hindustan Times, “When the accused found the victim walking alone on the airport road in Vasco, he offered her a lift. However, when she refused, he dragged her into the vehicle and took her to an isolated place in Vasco where he sexually assaulted her.”
According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the victim filed a complaint this morning, based which the accused was arrested. Bhat used to run a taxi at the airport and lives in Vasco. The police are probing the case.
On June 14, a police constable and a teenager allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in Goa’s Ponda town. Police arrested both the accused on June 17. In this case, the victim’s mother filed a police complaint. The victim also alleged minor boy for abusing her almost a month back.
