Gas Leak Reported at Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur District, 6 Dead

The cause of the poisonous gas leak was not immediately known.

Amaravati, July 12: At least six persons died and five were injured after a poisonous gas leaked from a steel plant in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district. The gas leak was reported at Gerdau Steel India Limited in Tadepatri of Anantapur district, reported news agency ANI.

The incident of gas leak occurred while testing was being done after maintenance work in the unit, District Superintendent of Police G Ashok Kumar told PTI. The cause of the poisonous gas leak was not immediately known.

The mill where gas leak was reported belongs to Brazilian firm Gerdau, a leading producer of long steel in the American sub-continent. Andhra Pradesh Home and Disaster Management Minister N China Rajappa expressed grief over the deaths.
