Fuel Rates Today: Petrol And Diesel Not Down by Rs 5 Per Litre in Several Cities Despite Centre, State Price Cut; Here's Why
Petrol price hit the Rs 84 per litre mark in Delhi, and diesel price crossed Rs 80 per litre mark in Mumbai as fuel rates continued to soar.
Mumbai, October 5: In an urgent media briefing over concerns on the rising fuel, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday announced that petrol and diesel prices will be cut by Rs 2.50 per litre with immediate effect. He said that while the Centre has cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 1.50 per litre, the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) will further reduce prices by Re 1 per litre. Several BJP ruled states announced a further cut of Rs 2.50 per litre, giving the consumer a total relief of Rs 5 per litre. However, the prices are not exactly down today by Rs 5 due to the price rise today in dynamic pricing programme.
According to Friday's rate, petrol in Mumbai stands at Rs 87.02, down Rs 4.37. and a litre of diesel is being sold at Rs 77.5, down Rs 2.65. A litre of petrol in Lucknow is at Rs 79, down 4.35. Petrol in Delhi is at Rs 81.56, down Rs 2.50, and a litre of petrol in Kolkata is being sold at Rs 83.4, down Rs 2.45. A litre of petrol in Chennai today stands at Rs 84.76, down Rs 2.63. Jaitley said the move will have an impact of Rs 10,500 crore on the revenues of central government this fiscal but the government is confident of achieving the fiscal deficit target.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who announced the reduction in prices through his Twitter handle, said: “This would give huge relief to common citizens. The net effect to the people in Maharashtra will be a reduced price of Rs 5 per litre (on petrol prices).”

Petrol and diesel prices saw an increase of 15 and 20 paise respectively in the national capital. In Mumbai, petrol price was hiked by 14 paise and diesel 21 paise.
After the revision, petrol is being sold at Rs 84 per litre in Delhi and diesel costs Rs 75.45 per litre. A litre of petrol now costs Rs 91.34 in Mumbai and diesel is being priced at Rs 80.10.
