Mumbai, September 4: Fuel prices continue to rise and they are at an all-time high. Petrol is at Rs 86.72/litre and diesel is selling at Rs 75.74/ litre in Mumbai. In Delhi also the prices have soared, a litre of petrol is being sold for Rs 79.31 and diesel will cost you Rs 71.34/litre. The price of petrol in Chennai is at Rs 82.34 per litre and it is Rs 82.15 per litre in Kolkata. Fuel Prices Continue To Rise! According to a report in the Mint, since August 16, petrol prices have increased by over Rs 2 per litre while diesel prices have been hiked by Rs 2.42 per litre. Among all four Metro cities, fuel is the costliest in Mumbai. Talking about the metro cities, petrol is the cheapest in Delhi and the reason behind this is a lower sales tax or VAT.
The transporters have further threatened to go on a strike if there is no reduction or control in the rates. Transporters have threatened to increase freight charges by 10-15 percent, if there is a further hike in diesel rates. Fishermen in Rameswaram are having an indefinite strike against the central government over the issue of diesel price hike. Their demand is tax-free diesel.
