Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of environmental activist GD Agarwal alias Swami Sanand, who died on Thursday - the 112th day of his fast unto death. The deceased scientist-cum-saint had launched an indefinite hunger strike on June 22, demanding the central government to stop all hydropower projects on river Ganga.

A week after BSP supremo Mayawati's unprecedented tirade against the Congress, her party's sole Minister in the Karnataka government, N Mahesh, submitted his resignation from the Cabinet. The decision has come as a shocker for Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who is heading the JD(S)-Congress coalition government in the state.

Reacting to the #MeToo controversy, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said it is a "very big issue" on which he would be commenting in the next press conference.

Some big developments that are expected to happen today are: Petrol and diesel prices in Delhi are Rs 82.48 per litre (increase by Rs 0.12) and Rs 74.90 (increase by Rs 0.28) respectively. Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai are Rs 87.94 per litre (increase by Rs 0.12) and Rs 78.51 per litre (increase by Rs 0.29) respectively.
