The newest party claiming to eradicate inequality and injustice in the country has emerged in the national caption. The Bahujan Azad Party wants to uplift the members of the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class category. The party includes former IITians who plan to work for the downtrodden community and help them get their rights. A group of 50 alumni from the Delhi and Kharagpur IITs have joined the party claiming to "uplift the marginalised".

IITians in the party include Naveen Kumar, B.Tech graduate from IIT Delhi, Vikrant Vatsal, a B.Tech in Biochemical Engineering from IIT Delhi and Sampath Kumar Banoth, M.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and PhD from IIT Roorkee. They want people of the backward class to receive their rights and quota for OBCs.

While they do not have any political backing, some prominent groups are supporting them. They are currently looking to build confidence in the minds of people about then and not pit against Congress or BJP.

The party plans to start its electoral journey from Bihar assembly elections 2020 and then contest for the next general elections.  Bahujan Azad Party does not aim to showcase itself as a particular party's rival, but work purely for people of backward classes. Among working towards other social causes, education is of top importance to them. According to a report in The Print, N. Paul Divakar, president of the National Campaign for Dalit Human Rights, has welcomed the IITians' initiative.
