Mumbai, July 3: A small fire erupted at Kamala Mills compound in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to BMC officials, two fire engines were rushed to the spot after they received the call. The situation was brought under control after fire was doused immediately. While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, no causality has been reported in the incident.

A similar fire was reported last year at Trade building in Kamala Mills, which killed 14 people and left many others injured. The incident exposed the apathy of civic body regarding the fire negligence. BMC was also under fire for allegedly granting permission to posh pubs and restaurants who didn't adhere to the safety norms.

Apart from this incident, the day started with news of several other mishaps due to the incessant rains. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a foot overbridge at Andheri railway station identified as Gokhale bridge collpased. The mishap disrupted the train service and left five people injured. After the incident, the train services on the western line was completely upheld and the repair work of overhead wire is underway.

While intermittent rains are expected throughout the day, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains with thundershowers in Mumbai and suburbs over the next 48 hours. According to BMC disaster control room, waterlogging has been reported at 11 spots in the city, 3000 BMC staff have been pressed into service.
