Goa, April 19: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is undergoing treatment in the United States for treatment of the pancreatic ailment. Last month, supporters and well-wishers of Goa Chief Minister were struck with panic and concern after a WhatsApp message, claiming to be a note written by him, went viral. In fake note forwarded as Parrikar's message to the populace, the ailing Goa CM purportedly contemplates over death. The hoax message quoted Parrikar saying that he could "feel death approaching him", in spite of the assurances given by the doctors.
According to an ANI report, Goa Police Crime Branch has arrested a man for spreading fake news on the health condition of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is undergoing treatement in the United States.
Post the message went viral, Goa Chief Minister's Office warned the supporters and well-wishers of ailing CM Manohar Parrikar against falling prey to rumour messages floating on WhatsApp and other forms of social media."It has been observed that many messages are floating on social media, attributing it to the CM’s authorship. Such messages are not authentic & mischievous. All messages of CM Manohar Parrikar will be communicated directly by him or through his verified social media handles only," said the statement issued on Goa CMO's Facebook handle.
Parrikar, 62 was initially admitted to the Mumbai-based Lilavati Hospital after being diagnosed with mild pancreatitis in the month of February this year. He was discharged after a few days and returned to Goa to present the budget on February 21. After spending a couple of days at home, he was admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital near Panaji. Later, he again went to the Lilavati Hospital on March 5 and from there he was taken to the US.
