Social networking site Facebook also wants to know if you are details are authentic as on your Aadhar card. So if you are a new user wanting to make an account on the popular social media site, the site will display a message to put your name as it is on Aadhar card. However, it also mentions it is not mandatory to have an Aadhar card for signing up. This just gives an insight into how the Aadhar card has become an important document over the year. We have been receiving Aadhar card linking messages on our phones over the last few months already and now there is Facebook to remind you of your authentication.
The Facebook application is actually testing it on its mobile site and this move is to curb the number of fake accounts. Fake accounts on the social media site have been misused far and wide, be it for personal, professional or even financial cases. There are over 241 million users in the country who are on the social networking site, making India the second largest market for Facebook. A Facebook spokesperson said, “We want to make sure people can use the names they're known by on Facebook, and can easily connect with friends and family. This is a small test where we provide additional language when people sign up for an account to say that using the name on their Aadhaar card makes it easier for friends to recognise them. This is an optional prompt which we are testing, people are not required to enter the name on their Aadhaar card."
This move is only a pilot program and does not want you to give your other Aadhar details out. So it is completely safe and not a risky move. So as the use of Aadhar everywhere is already making controversies, Facebook is just ensuring you are putting your real details out. The Aadhar prompt message is also not displayed for everyone, but only the new users who happen to access it on the mobile.
