Mumbai, Aug 2: Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, which is to be celebrated on August 22, 2018, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is planning vaccination for goats arriving in the twin-cities for the festival. The civic body is likely to vaccinate goats at the entry point of Mira-Bhayandar from August 12.

On Wednesday, Congress corporator Ashraf Shaikh met additional municipal commissioner Madhav Kusekar and discussed vaccination for goats arriving for the Bakra Eid festival. However, the final decision has not be taken; Shaikh said the senior official responded positively to the proposal. Thousands of goats from different parts of the state are brought to makeshift markets in Mira Road before Eid-ul-Adha.

“Around 10,000 goats arrive in the twin-cities — some from far-off places and remote villages after a long journey. As a precautionary step, we have asked the administration to vaccinate the livestock at the entry point of the twin-cities, ideally from August 12,  to which the civic chief has responded positively,” Shaikh was quoted as saying.

Bakra Eid, also called the festival of sacrifice, is observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah - the final month of the Islamic calendar. This is the second of two Islamic festivals celebrated worldwide by Muslims each year (the other being Eid al-Fitr).
