Amritsar, June 16: Eid-ul-Fitr 2018 was a no-celebration affair at the Wagah border unlike previous years that saw exchange of sweets between Indian and Pakistani soldiers. Following continuous ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, there was no exchange of sweets between the Border Security Force troops and the Pakistani Rangers at the Attari-Wagah border on the occasion of Eid. On Saturday, too, Pakistan violated ceasefire at 0400 hours in Arnia sector.

Pakistan has violated ceasefire multiple times in the past few months. Several Indian soldiers were martyred n ceasefire violation by Pakistan especially during the holy month of Ramzan, which itself witnessed over 10 incidents of firing by the Pakistani Army.

Earlier this week, a senior BSF official said that Indian forces have maintained the sanctity of the ceasefire along the frontier but Pakistan “unfortunately” has not. Terming the killing of four BSF personnel in firing by Pakistan Rangers on June 12 as “betrayal”, Additional Director General (Western Command) K N Choubey said what the neighbouring country does is its business and but “how we respond” to the attack is “our job”. Choubey also said the BSF would lodge a protest with the Pakistani side over the incident.

Four BSF personnel, including an assistant commandant rank officer, were killed and three others injured in firing by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on June 12.

On June 4, a sector-commander level flag meeting was held at Octroi post in Suchetgarh area of RS Pura sector. The meeting was held after Pakistani firing killed two BSF men and injured 14 civilians on June 3 in Pargwal sector of Jammu district. However, despite the meeting, ceasefire violation by Pakistan continued in multiple sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
